ORONO — The Eastern Maine Baseball Umpires Association will hold a free umpiring clinic, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m., on Jan. 15, 2017, at University of Maine’s Mahaney Dome. The daylong clinic is for high school umpires, people interested in umpiring high school baseball or those seeking training in game situations. The clinic is co-sponsored by the UMaine baseball team. ORONO — Maine Saturday Night Hitting Clinics for youth in grades 8 and under, 4:30-6 p.m., and for high school players, 6-7:30 p.m., at University of Maine. The clinic is designed to help create bat speed and better swing mechanics. There are two sessions because of Christmas break. Session I is $100 and will be held Dec. 3-17; Session II is $150 runs Jan. 7-Feb. 4. Video analysis and an extra night of hitting on Tuesdays are available. BASKETBALL

The 8th Annual Taylor Tip-Off, are a statewide charitable basketball event, will take place Sunday, Nov. 6, at gyms in Hampden, Waterville, Saco, Falmouth, Gray and New Gloucester. More than 150 boys and girls teams in grades 5 through 12 will compete in the event, the proceeds from which support children who are victims of domestic violence. Over $130,000 has been raised to date. The games at Hampden Recreation Center’s Skeehan Gym start with two games on two courts at 9:30 a.m. Play goes all day on the hour with the last game starting at 5:30 p.m. There 17 games, 10 boys and seven girls. The timers, scorers, officials, and supervisors are all volunteers, including 17  members of the Eastern Maine Board 111 of Approved Basketball Officials Basketball Officials.

HAMPDEN — Former NBA player Bob Bigelow will conduct a basketball clinic for youth in grade six and older 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the old Hampden Academy gymnasium/recreation Center, 1 Main Road North. ROAD RACING

BANGOR — Bangor American Legion is organizing its annual 3K road race to help raise funds to support local veterans and their families. The “For Our Vets Purple Heart Run” will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, prior to the start of the annual Bangor/Brewer Veterans Day Parade. The Purple Heart Run starts in Brewer and ends in Downtown Bangor. There is a suggested donation of $20 per runner. Donations are being accepted for the road race and throughout the year.

ELLSWORTH — The third annual Veterans Remembrance 4-Mile Road Race is set for Sunday, Nov. 13, beginning and ending at the YMCA gymnasium, 238 State St. Registration at 7:30 am. Walkers start at 8:30 a.m. and runners at 9 a.m. Ten rocks honoring Maine fallen soldiers will be carried by runners through the 4-mile course. First 200 to register will receive a dog tag-style medal presented by a veteran. Donations will be made to The Summit Project and Maine Veteran’s Project. Call Robin Clarke at YMCA. ROCKPORT — The annual Camden Hills Ski Sale and Swap will be held 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, and 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Camden Hills Regional High School, Route 90. Drop off your used gear to sell 3-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the high school. Then pick up your check or whatever has not sold noon-1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20. BANGOR — The Greater Bangor Women’s Ski and Snowboard Club annual signup night and fundraiser will take place 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Ski Rack Sports on 24 Longview Drive near the Bangor Mall. The club offers a program of skiing or boarding for the winter season, with great discounts on ski lift tickets, ski or board rentals, clinics and more. During the evening there will be a silent auction fundraiser open to those who commit to a program that night.
