ELLSWORTH, Maine — High winds Friday knocked out power to thousands of electricity customers throughout the state.
On its website, Central Maine Power indicated that it had more than 3,000 customers were without power early Friday afternoon, with the largest concentrations in Cumberland, Lincoln, Oxford, Somerset and York counties.
According to Emera Maine official, more than 900 of their customers were without power early Friday afternoon, most of them in western Washington and southwestern Penobscot counties.
Emera Maine officials cautioned the public to exercise caution when approaching work crews and using generators, which should always be operated outside, and to stay away from downed power lines.
