FITCHBURG, Massachusetts — Freshman Emma Thomson of York knocked down 11 3-pointers on the way to a career-best 33 points on Wednesday night, propelling Fitchburg State to an 80-62 women’s basketball victory over Anna Maria College at Parkinson Gymnasium.
Thomson, a 5-foot-8 guard, connected on 11 of her 16 field-goal attempts, all of which came from behind the 3-point arc.
“I usually shoot a lot of 3’s, but it was the work of my team today,” Thomson told the Sentinel & Enterprise. “My team played so well today, and we all shared the ball. Their passes and them dishing the ball were a huge part of it.”
Fitchburg State (2-3) shot 42 percent from the 3-point line, going 20-for-48.
Thomson also contributed five rebounds, three steals and one assist for the Falcons, who are coached by Dan Nagle.
She is averaging 17 points per game for the Falcons while shooting 48 percent overall and 49 percent (26-for-53) from long range. She is averaging 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals.
“Thomson is a special shooter,” Nagle told the Sentinel & Enterprise. “She’s a tremendous kid. She’s got a really bright future, and she’s a humble kid, too.”
