WISCASSET, Maine — A Wiscasset couple faces civil charges including keeping vicious dogs after their pit bulls attacked another dog on Wednesday and bit a woman who attempted to intervene.
Robin Standring, 50, and Nicholas Martinez, 39, are scheduled for a court appearance in Lincoln County on Jan. 26 to face the two charges, as well as two charges of allowing dogs to be at large, Wiscasset Police Chief Jeffrey E. Lange said Monday.
Early Wednesday evening, the two pit bulls escaped through an improperly closed gate from the Ward Brook Road yard of Standring and Martinez after seeing a smaller dog across the street, The Lincoln County News reported.
The pit bulls attacked the smaller dog, and then bit the wrist of a 32-year-old woman, who attempted to intervene. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The smaller dog was taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment of wounds that Lange told the Lincoln County News would result in substantial bills.
The pit bulls will be quarantined at home for 10 days, according to Lange, who said the town’s animal control officer has already recommended to the owners how to fix the dog kennel pen.
