GORHAM, Maine — One of the three girls seriously injured in Monday’s crash in Gorham has died, according to a letter from the Gorham School Department.

A letter sent by Gorham Assistant Superintendent Chris Record said the Narragansett Elementary School fifth-grader who was involved in the crash died late Wednesday evening.

“Our hearts go out to the family, neighbors, community members, students and school personnel that are grieving this tragic loss,” Record said.

Police have not released the names of the children involved in the crash.

The father of two of those girls, 45-year-old Joe Piawlock, died in the crash on Route 202.

He was in the passenger seat and in the direct path of the dump truck after the car his wife, Yvonne Piawlock, was driving swerved into oncoming traffic.

Police believe Yvonne Piawlock lost control of the SUV because the roads were icy.

Record said school counselors and social workers are continuing to offer support to Narragansett students and staff.
