OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — Tom Johnston, a meteorologist at WCSH-TV (Channel 6) in Portland who was reported missing on Monday, has been found dead.

According to media release posted on the Twitter page of the Auburn Police late Thursday night that department, with the assistance of the Maine Warden Service, had located Johnston’s body.

“Any suspicion of foul play has been ruled out and the investigation is focused on an apparent suicide,” the release said. “No further information is being released until an autopsy has been completed by the Chief Medical Examiner’s on Friday (04-07-17).”

Johnston, 46, had been the subject of a missing person investigation being conducted by the Old Orchard Beach Police Department as he was a resident of that town.

According to a flier from the Old Orchard Police Department and reports by WCSH, Johnston left Old Orchard Beach early Saturday morning to attend an event at Sunday River.

WCSH reported that Johnston did a live remote report for the station from Sunday River as part of his assignment there.

The flier said the last time he had contact with his family was Saturday night. According to Sunday River, Johnston checked out of his hotel at 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Johnston had worked at WCSH for three years.
