Lewiston Mayor Robert MacDonald said he’s concerned a postcard he received “will spark fear within the immigrant community,” the Sun Journal reported.

“Please help us protect our city from ICE and deportation that would strike fear into all — NO TAXPAYER DOLLARS TOWARD deportation!” the postcard read, in part.

“I don’t want that population sitting looking over their shoulder thinking something bad is going to happen, when nothing is happening,” MacDonald said, according to the Sun Journal. “They’re looking for the bogeyman, and he ain’t there.”

In a city news release Tuesday, Macdonald said “immigrants who are here legally … have nothing to worry about.”
