WESTBROOK, Maine — One person has died in an early Sunday morning accident when a car rear-ended an SUV on Route 302 in Westbrook, police said.
The two-vehicle accident happened around 6 a.m. Sunday. The driver of the Chevrolet Camaro, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene, but his name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
The driver of the Nissan SUV, a woman, was treated at the scene and declined to be taken to a hospital, police said. The vehicles were totaled.
Speed may have been a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
Route 302 was closed between Hardy Road and the Windham town line until about 10:45 a.m., police said.
