Roads near Home Depot near the Topsham Fair Mall were closed for several hours Wednesday morning while police investigated a suspicious package.
The package was reported at 8:23 a.m., according to Chief Deputy Brett Strout of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
Topsham police and firefighters were at the scene along with Maine State Police, Sagadahoc County dispatch confirmed.
Police said a landscaper found a gym bag with wires protruding from it that was ticking, WGME reported. After the bag was detonated, they discovered the bag contained several electronic devices but no explosives.
Police continue to investigate.
The incident occurred three days after the Maine fire marshal’s office and Maine State Police, among others, went to Damariscotta to investigate a suspicious package “painted to look like a bomb” outside LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus in Damariscotta.
Local police and fire departments received a call just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday about a suspicious package sitting outside the hospital at 35 Miles St.
The Maine fire marshal’s office and the Damariscotta Police Department continue to investigate that incident as well.
