Many in Kennebunk are mourning the loss of a beloved community member who was struck and killed while riding her bike.

Police said Katherine Moxham, 46, was traveling on High Street on Wednesday afternoon when a pickup truck driven by a teenager crossed the centerline and hit her head-on.

The wife and mother of two boys died at Maine Medical Center on Friday.

Moxham was a former employee of Regional School Unit 21 — the district covering Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport — but still volunteered and filled in as a substitute teacher.

Superintendent Katie Hawes said grief counselors were made available Monday morning for anyone in the school community to help deal with the loss.

“I think just that she was always so happy and positive and kind,” Hawes told WGME, CBS 13. People loved her, and she’ll always be remembered for that.”

A celebration of life will be held Thursday afternoon.

The crash remains under investigation.
