Portland police announced late Wednesday that an elderly man who went missing earlier in the week has been found.
“Ronald Parsons has been located. He hitchhiked to Androscoggin County and made his way to a family camp,” Portland police Lt. Robert Martin said in a news release. “We received phone calls from people that saw the news reports and recognized seeing him in the area.”
Parsons lives at The Woods at Canco, a senior living facility at 257 Canco Road, and had been last seen eating dinner with other residents there in the dining room around 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Police said he suffers from mild dementia with paranoia, and a satellite tracking device he was supposed to wear was found discarded in the woods near his residence on Canco Road.
Martin said in a Wednesday news release that Parsons is in excellent physical condition and was known for taking long walks, but that his family was worried, because he was not carrying a cellphone, money or credit cards.
In the original Wednesday police news release about Parsons’ disappearance, his name was incorrectly spelled “Parson.”
