After a daylong investigation by local police and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, officers Tuesday arrested Caroll Demmons, 46, at his Newcastle home and charged him with burglary and theft in connection to Monday’s robbery at Camden National Bank on Atlantic Highway.

Police from multiple agencies went to the bank Monday afternoon after receiving a report that a white male, approximately 6 feet tall and slender, entered the bank wearing a dark-colored, nylon stocking and large floppy hat, and passed a note to a teller demanding money.

The teller complied, handing over an undisclosed amount of cash, and no weapon was displayed, Waldoboro police Chief Bill Labombarde said Monday.

The suspect then left the bank on foot.

Detectives from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and a Maine State Police search dog assisted at the scene.

At about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers from both agencies conducted a search warrant at Demmons’ house in Newcastle, Labombarde said Tuesday night.

They allegedly seized a vehicle, cash and other evidence they say connected Demmons to Monday’s robbery.

Demmons was charged with Class C felony burglary and theft and was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he remains held on $2,500 cash bail.

Demmons was arrested for robbing the same branch of Camden National Savings in 2012.

Citing an ongoing investigation, LaBombard declined to release additional evidence.
