A boat circled for hours Sunday off the coast of Biddeford after two boaters were thrown from the craft during a sharp turn, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The boaters were fishing off Timber Island around 8 a.m. Sunday, when the operator of the boat swerved sharply to avoid a buoy, the Coast Guard told the paper. The turn threw both people from the boat, leaving the vessel stuck in a sharp turn at high speed.

A nearby fisherman rescued the two boaters and took them to shore. Neither suffered serious injuries.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary went to try to board and recover the boat but couldn’t because it was traveling too fast in its tight circle. Instead, they stood by and waited for it to run out of gas.

That finally happened around 11:30 a.m., and the Coast Guard towed the boat back to shore.
