Maine Forest Rangers on Monday responded to a fire at Abol Bridge Campground, just outside Baxter State Park.
The fire started and was contained in a generator shed in the campground, which sits just across the south edge of Baxter, on the Penobscot River in Millinocket.
The shed reportedly contained 400 gallons of fuel, which did not explode. Firefighters successfully quenched the fire, which caused significant damage to the shed, according to reports from the Maine Forest Ranger’s Facebook page.
Employees at the campground thanked the rangers and members of the Millinocket Fire Department on the campground’s Facebook page for their “speedy response” to the blaze Monday night.
The campground was open Tuesday, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
