BIDDEFORD POOL, Maine — Seven people, including four adults and three children, are safe after their 24-foot boat sank more than two miles off the Maine coast.
The boat went down off the coast of Biddeford Pool on Sunday afternoon. Rescuers say the boaters were in the water for about a half hour before they were picked up by the Coast Guard and local first responders.
All seven were wearing life jackets, and no one was hurt. There was some concern about the temperature of the water. Right now the ocean is only about 63 degrees, so getting to the scene quickly was critical.
The captain says that Biddeford dispatchers did a great job telling the victims what to do as the boat began to sink, including making sure their life jackets were on.
All of the victims are going to be fine.
No word yet on what caused the boat to sink.
