TOPSHAM, Maine — A 61-year-old Topsham man has been indicted on 20 counts of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact.

Robert Welch was indicted by a Sagadahoc County grand jury of three counts of Class A felony gross sexual assault, seven counts of Class B felony gross sexual assault, nine counts of Class B unlawful sexual contact, and one count of Class C unlawful sexual contact, according to an indictment list released by District Attorney Jonathan Liberman.

The crimes allegedly took place over a nine-year period, from October 2008 to June 2017, when the alleged victim was between and 7 and 15 years old.

Welch was arrested in June and has since been released on bail.

Welch’s attorney, Gerard Conley, did not immediately return a phone call on Thursday.
