An Otisfield man died Thursday night in Oxford after crashing into a utility pole at high speed, according to Oxford police.
Cedric Palmer, 26, died at the scene and his passenger, Eric Knapik, 26 of Oxford was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he remains in serious condition, Oxford Police Chief Jon Tibbetts said Friday.
“Palmer was driving a 2000 Honda Accord on the Mechanic Falls Road at a high rate of speed and lost control,” Tibbetts said.
The two men had been on their way to Knapik’s home, Tibbetts said. The crash remains under investigation.
Emergency crews had to cut Knapik out of the crushed vehicle, the chief said. Mechanic Falls Road is also known as Route 121, and the crash occurred about a mile from the intersection with Route 26.
