A man died early Monday morning when he crashed his motorcycle in Camden, according to the Courier-Gazette.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Park Street. A resident in the area reportedly heard a vehicle accelerate, followed by a loud bang, and looked outside but didn’t see anything and didn’t report the noise.

A person out for a morning walk around 5:20 a.m. found deceased motorcyclist and the motorcycle on a lawn.

Police say the man wasn’t wearing a helmet. The investigation continues, but Camden police Chief Randy Gagne told the Courier-Gazette that speed and driver inexperience appeared to be contributing factors in the crash.

The man’s name has not been released, pending notification of family members.

This is the 21st fatal motorcycle crash in Maine so far this year. Nine of those occurred in September alone. Maine saw a total of 18 fatal motorcycle crashes in all of 2016.
