A Bangor man was arrested Tuesday afternoon at the Union Street Athletic Field after allegedly displaying a weapon and threatening the members of a local youth soccer team, police said.

Steven Butler, 40, was charged with terrorizing, a Class C crime, Lt. Catherine Rumsey of the Bangor Police Department said in a press release

Rumsey said police would not reveal Tuesday the kind of weapon involved or the exact nature of the threat.

The Bangor High School Soccer Club was just starting a practice session about 4 p.m. when the threat was made, she said.

Police are continuing to investigate and expect to release more information on Wednesday, Rumsey said.

If convicted, Butler faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
