National Geographic Explorer has ranked Portland as one of the happiest cities in the country.
Author Dan Buettner searched the U.S. for the happiest people, interviewing more than 250,000 adults in 190 metropolitan areas, and asking them a variety of questions that can define happiness.
Buettner ranked Portland No. 24 on the list of 25 American cities.
Portland ranks among the happiest cities in the United States, based on metrics like walkability, access to nature, and civic engagement, according to Buettner.
Manchester, New Hampshire, was also placed on the list at No. 19, as was Bridgeport, Connecticut, at No. 8 and Barnstable, Massachusetts, at No. 9.
Boulder, Colorado, was named the happiest city in the country.
