A hunter found a decomposed body Wednesday afternoon in Rockport.

The body was found about 500 yards in the woods off Mt. Pleasant Road. Police are investigating the incident as an unattended death, according to a news release from Rockport police Chief Randy Gagne.

Personal identification was found at the scene, and the body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for examination and positive identification.

Police were called to the scene near the Hope town line after a hunter walking through the woods found the body.

Rockport police with the assistance of Camden police, the Maine Warden Service, Maine State Police and the Rockport Fire Department are continuing to investigate the matter.

No further information was available Thursday morning.
