Yarmouth High School continued its dominance of Maine’s Class B boys soccer ranks on Saturday afternoon.
The Clippers annexed their fourth straight state title by posting a 2-1 victory over North titlist Winslow at Deering High School in Portland.
Yarmouth capped a perfect season with an 18-0 record while surpassing Falmouth for the most boys soccer championships with the program’s 12th.
Coach Mike Hagerty’s team has now won 24 consecutive contests.
The game was tied 1-1 almost 26 minutes into the second half when the Clippers logged the game-winner. Jack Jones scored off an assist from Eric LaBrie to put Yarmouth on top for good.
Yarmouth grabbed a 1-0 first-half lead when LaBrie converted after tracking down the rebound of his own shot.
Michael Wildes equalized for Winslow (15-4), which was facing Yarmouth in the finale for the second year in a row. His long free kick with a little more than nine minutes to play in the first half made it 1-1.
Jake Lapierre had a busy game in goal for the Black Raiders and racked up 19 saves.
Cal Owen made two saves for the winners.
Class A
Lewiston 1, Portland 0
At Deering High School in Portland, Warsame Ali headed in an indirect free kick by teammate Noralddin Othman with 5:49 remaining in the first overtime period, lifting the Lewiston Blue Devils to the Class A state title.
Coach Mike McGraw’s Lewiston squad (14-2-2), which knocked off top-seeded Bangor in the the North regional final, finished atop the Class A ranks for the second time in three seasons.
Portland closed out the campaign at 13-4-1.
The contest was dominated by defense as Dido Lumu of Lewiston was forced to make only three saves and Rowan Daligan of Portland had two stops against only three shots on goal.
