Millinocket Regional Hospital remained on partial lockdown Wednesday morning after receiving two emergency room patients involved in a Tuesday night shooting, according to reports.

The lockdown was imposed Tuesday night to control the number of people entering and leaving the building and does not affect the emergency room or regular hospital operations, according to a report from TV news station WABI.

The shooting stems from an incident that reportedly took place on Massachusetts Avenue around 8 p.m. Tuesday. Millinocket police, state police, and Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene but would not provide details, according to ABC affiliate Fox 22.

Hospital officials said the lockdown would remain in effect until at least Wednesday and did not comment on the condition of the patients involved in the shooting, according to WLBZ.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said state police will provide more details about the overnight investigation at a press conference Wednesday morning.
