A Buxton woman is getting a helping hand from friends, family and beyond for a special reason — she needs a double lung transplant to live.

Brenda Roberts was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis a year ago.

On Saturday, a fundraiser was held to help bring in funds to afford the surgery, in particular post-procedure expenses.

Roberts, who is on a transplant list at a Boston hospital, expressed her thanks for the ongoing efforts to help.

“It’s so amazing to have so much support around me,” she said. “All of these people are here to support me. It just, it blows my mind.”

Roberts hopes to get the transplant within the next month. On Saturday, musicians, a bake sale and a raffle supported her efforts to persevere.

More help is on the way as organizers said they plan on everything from a yard sale this summer, a walk and a dance to support Roberts.

Their goal is the raise $110,000.
