A family from Florida was brought to the hospital Thursday night with injuries not considered life-threatening, after a car rear-ended them on Interstate 95 in Hampden, according to Maine State Police.
Anthony Hodge, 19, of Gorham was allegedly distracted by his phone when he crashed into the rear of Frank Corso’s 2003 Dodge Dakota around 8 p.m., police said. Corso, 32, was traveling with his wife and infant daughter.
Hodge’s 2003 Nissan Altima caught fire, shutting down the northbound lane on the I-95 for more than an hour, according to state police spokesman Stephen McCausland.
McCausland said Corso’s family was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, and Hodge was charged with failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
Trooper Dave Yankowsky heard the crash from his parked cruiser nearby and was the first on the scene.
