The three candidates in the race to replace Gov. Paul LePage — whose eventful tenure hangs over the race on policy and politics — had their liveliest debate of the cycle on Thursday as they looked to make their final cases to Maine voters ahead of Tuesday’s election.
Don’t fall ‘into the trap’ of misinformation on Election Day, Maine’s top elections official says
Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap said state officials are working closely with federal agencies and even websites like Facebook to monitor and address misinformation circulating as voters prepare to go to the polls Tuesday.
But he warned voters to be vigilant: “If you hear something [questionable], before you act on it by marking a ballot in a way you had not intended, your first line of defense is to talk to your local election official.”

A new conflict has erupted on an iconic Maine waterfront
Amid aggressive development and significant turnover in ownership of waterfront property, Maine Preservation this week named Boothbay Harbor’s working waterfront as one of its most endangered sites in 2018. Advocates for maintaining piers and nearby properties as part of a working waterfront are exploring ways to stave off commercial development that they say conflicts with the town’s maritime heritage.
