A Bangor musician well known to fans of Maine metal was on life support Tuesday after injuries suffered during an altercation that occurred over the weekend, according to a family member.
Jason Moody, 40, who plays bass for Bangor-based metal band Seize the Vatican, was on life support at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, said the family member, who asked not to be named.
According to Moody’s friend Dustin Faloon, lead singer for Seize the Vatican, at some point on Sunday, Moody was reportedly involved in an altercation in Bangor. Moody was physically assaulted and received severe head injuries, Faloon said. He was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was placed on life support.
Initially, numerous friends and family posted on Facebook saying that Moody had died early Tuesday morning, but according to a family member, he was still on life support at the Bangor hospital.
Faloon said he knew Moody for about 10 years and called him a fun-loving member of a larger metal family in eastern Maine, many of whom are in bands that have played at the Kave, a rock venue in Bucksport.

“We were all Kave kids, so we’re instantly family,” Faloon said. “He was always super energetic, always wanted to have fun. He brought life wherever he went.”
Faloon said Moody was originally from the Waldoboro area but had lived in Bangor for a few years, aside from an eight-month stint living in North Carolina last year.
Bangor police Sgt. Wade Betters said police are “investigating the circumstances surrounding a person found injured over the weekend.” He said police will release additional details later.
A hospital spokesman said he had no information about Moody.
