BAR HARBOR — Anchorspace Bar Harbor and YWCA MDI are hosting the Women Owned Business Expo from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 17 at 36 Mount Desert Street. Join us for a morning of breakfast treats and get to know the women owned businesses of MDI. Free admission. If you have a women owned business, get a table section for your $25 donation to the YWCA MDI. Bring your marketing materials and be ready to talk to people about what you do for work.
Annual Tozier’s Turkey Trail 2018
BUCKSPORT — The Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the annual Tozier’s Turkey Trail at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at 54 Main St. Race officially starts at 12 p.m. Entry fee is $4 per person or $2 per person with a toiletry donation for the Bucksport Community Concerns Pantry or pet supplies for the Bucksport Animal Shelter.
Stars and Stripes Swing Dance
FRANKLIN — Join the Franklin Veterans Club for a 1940s USO Stars & Stripes themed Swing Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday Nov. 17, at 4 Cards Crossing. Includes music from the Al Corey Big Band and Sheri’s Dancers. Tickets are $20 per person or $35 for couples and are available for purchase at the FVC or the website. Dress for the time period and theme is encouraged but not required. Funds raised support the various charitable causes that the FVC supports.
Meetinghouse Theatre Lab one-day ‘Out of the Hat’ production based on Orwell’s ‘1984’ slated Nov. 17
WINTER HARBOR — Meetinghouse Theatre Lab’s “Out of the Hat” one-day production based on George Orwell’s “1984” and adapted by Matthew Dunster, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Hammond Hall, Schoodic Arts for All. The compact production has rehearsal time of 7 hours, then is performed in the evening. The play, director and cast are all picked “out of the hat.” The play is read at noon, the director chooses the cast, the play is rehearsed, then performed. To read, you will need yourself, writing utensils, blacks, a potluck, energy and a penchant for fun. Deer Isle Artist Association offering free workshop on coiling baskets
DEER ISLE — The Deer Isle Artist Association is offering a free workshop to the public on coiling baskets, taught by Cindy Bourque-Simonds, 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the DIAA Gallery, 15 Main St. Learn a simple coil and create small baskets or vessels using colored waxed linen thread and a tapestry needle. Participants also will learn to embellish the baskets with papering, painting, shaping or adding elements. All levels welcome; materials provided. Email your interest to cbsimonds@gmail.com.
