Due to poor weather expected Friday, the Class D football state championship game between Wells and Foxcroft Academy has been pushed back a night.

Originally scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, the game now will be played at the same time Saturday at Morse Field on the campus of the University of Maine in Orono.

According to the Caribou office of the National Weather Service, Friday’s weather forecast for Orono calls for a 90 percent chance of precipitation with snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible, a high temperature near 32 degrees, and a northeast wind between 8 and 11 miles per hour.

Friday night’s forecast calls for a chance of snow and sleet before 8 p.m., then a chance of snow from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. before becoming mostly cloudy with a low near 24 degrees.

This will be the second straight year that Wells (11-0) and Foxcroft (10-0) have met for the Class D title. Wells won the 2017 meeting 48-0.
