A Cornville man died Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash that left two other men injured, according to police.

Gregory Griffeth, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Shadagee Road in Cornville, according to a press release from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office. He was the sole occupant of the 2000 GMC pickup truck he was driving.

The two occupants of the second vehicle involved were both transported to a local hospital following the crash, according to the release. Sinan Deris, 23, of New York, suffered possible broken bones in his legs as well as hand injuries. Tunc Sarden, 20, also of New York, was complaining of chest pains from the seat belts.

The impact of the crash was so severe that the bed of the pickup separated from the frame and landed in a ditch, the release stated. Griffeth was towing a utility trailer at the time of the accident.

The crash is still under investigation, but preliminary beliefs are that road conditions and excessive speed may have contributed to the accident, according to the release.

At the time of the accident, a weather advisory warning of freezing rain and slick road conditions was in effect for the area, and for much of the state.
