The woman and boy who died Wednesday afternoon in a crash in Liberty have been identified.
Janice Minson, 64, of Verona Island and Colby Adams, 9, of Hope died from injuries suffered when the car Minson was driving crossed the centerline on Route 3 around 5:30 p.m. and crashed into an oncoming truck, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Minson was brought to the Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, where she succumbed to her injuries. Adams, a passenger in a truck driven by 20-year-old Evan West of Liberty, died instantly. Another boy who was riding in the truck was seriously injured. Samuel Levesque, 15, of Liberty suffered multiple injuries and was brought to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he is being treated. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. The operator, West, suffered only minor injuries and was treated and released from the Belfast hospital by Thursday morning.
This is the second fatal crash to occur in the town of Liberty this week. On Tuesday morning, a box truck crossed the Route 3 centerline and crashed head-on into a pickup truck. The operator of the pickup truck, 55-year-old William Chadwick of Oakland, died in the crash. The operator of the box truck was not injured.
