A West Gardiner man died Saturday after he had a medical event while driving.

Michael Goding, 67, had a medical event about 9:12 a.m. near the intersection of High Street and Hickory Lane, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and strike the side of a telephone pole before crossing over a culvert and coming to rest against a tree, according to Kennebec County sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Chris Read.

Goding was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, where he died a few hours later, Read said.

Read said that police believe Goding did not die as a result of any injuries related to the crash, but did not provide further details.

No other vehicles involved in the crash.
