BANGOR, Maine — Sergio El Darwich went 9-for-9 from the field on his way to a game-high 21 points to power the University of Maine men’s basketball team to a 98-43 victory over UMaine-Machias at the Cross Insurance Center on Monday night.

The Division I Black Bears shot 56 percent on the night, going 36-for-63 from the field and converting 20 of 25 free throws. UMaine (2-9) scored 40 points as the result of 26 turnovers by the Clippers of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Black Bears also came away with a 58-18 advantage on points in the paint.

Vincent Eze tossed in 16 points and provided three assists for UMaine, which placed five players in double figures. Isaiah White netted 13 points, while Miks Antoms (6 rebounds, 4 assists) and Andrew Fleming (5 rebounds, 4 assists) provided 11 points each.

Teron Moss came up with six of the Black Beas’ 20 steals in the contest.

The Clippers (4-7) were sparked by the 13-point, 16-rebound performance of Trey Thompson, who added two assists and two steals. Dante Ramos also tallied 13 points.

UM-Machias shot 32 percent (15-for-47), including only 3-for-16 (19 percent) from the 3-point arc.

Next up for the Black Bears is a noon game Sunday at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
