KITTERY, Maine — Town Manager Kendra Amaral has accepted a two-year contract extension, which the Town Council unanimously approved Monday night.
When hired by the town in 2016, Amaral signed onto a five-year contract and began at a starting salary of $113,000. In October, the Town Council unanimously granted Amaral a 3-percent annual compensation increase. At that time, the council announced it would meet with Amaral to discuss a possible contract extension.
On Monday, the council extended her contract to seven years, with salary adjustments for the additional two years.
Amaral’s raise and contract extension comes just months after she was recognized by the Maine Town, City and County Management Association as the state’s “rising star,” an award given to a public administrator who has been in the profession for five years or less, designed to recognize a person who has done a particularly good job in a community. The award aims to provide encouragement to stay in the profession.
The Town Council unanimously submitted Amaral for the award, and her application packet included multiple letters from Kittery residents praising her professionalism, smart budgeting and work ethic.
Amaral sits at a current salary of approximately $116,000, which is subject to annual evaluation by the Town Council.
