The field to determine the winner of the 48th annual James J. Fitzpatrick Trophy was narrowed to three finalists Tuesday.
Anthony Bracamonte of Thornton Academy of Saco, Zack Elowitch of Portland and Tyler Bridge of Wells were selected from a field of 10 semifinalists.
The winner will be announced during a banquet in Portland on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019.
Bracamonte led Thornton Academy to the Class A state championship this fall, while Elowitch helped Portland reach the Class A state final. He already has been named the state’s 2018 Gatorade Player of the Year.
Bridge played a pivotal role in leading Wells to its third straight state title overall and second straight in Class D after winning the 2016 Class C crown.
No Class D player has ever won the Fitzpatrick Trophy, presented annually to the state’s top high school senior football player.
Other semifinalists were Marcus Christopher of Skowhegan, Dante DeLorenzo of Kennebunk, Carter Edgerton of Biddeford, Alex Gorham of Dirigo of Dixfield, Tommy Springer of Marshwood of South Berwick, Carter Tolmasoff of Bucksport, Garrett Trask of Hermon, Will Whyte of Bonny Eagle of Standish and Matt Wozniak of Cony of Augusta.
