A Portland man who inflicted “severe and permanent injuries” upon an 8-week-old child will spend 14 years in prison, Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson announced Friday.

Judge Deborah Cashman sentenced Brandon Coleman, 30, to 20 years in prison, with all but 14 suspended, and six years of probation Thursday, according to Anderson’s office.

Coleman was convicted last month on three charges, including assault on a minor, the district attorney’s office said.

Police at the time said Coleman was caring for the child, his daughter, on July 1, 2017, when the girl suffered what they described as a “serious medical event” and was taken to Maine Medical Center.
