ORONO, Maine — Jack True of Yarmouth High School is among four players who signed National Letters of Intent to play football at the University of Maine starting next season.
True is joined by Clark Barnes of Brampton, Ontario; Satchel McKinney of Brandywine, Maryland; and Curtis Murray of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, as the players to sign with the Black Bears during the early signing period.
True is one of three offensive players in the group as he is expected to play tight end. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder attends St. Thomas More in Oakdale, Connecticut.
He was an all-conference pick at Yarmouth, where he was selected for the Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic all-star game.
“Jack really impressed us over the summer at our camps with his ability to play the tight end position. We are looking forward to his development within this program,” UMaine head coach Joe Harasymiak said in a news release.
Barnes is a 6-2, 200-pound wide receiver who played at Clarkson Secondary School, helping it earn a No. 1 ranking in Canada. He was ranked the No. 5 Canadian player in the class of 2019 and was named to Team Ontario.
“Clark’s length will become a huge asset to your offense. His ability to stretch the field with his speed is something we look forward to,” Harasymiak said. “He is the perfect combination of size and speed that we need.”
Murray (5-10, 190) is a running back who played at Riverdale Baptist, where was his team’s Most Valuable Player in 2017. He was a captain on the squad that went 7-3 this season.
“Curtis is a great fit for our offense. His ability to break tackles and extend plays is what we are extremely excited about,” Harasymiak said. “He also has the power to run inside the tackles and the speed to take it the distance.”
McKinnney (5-9, 160) will head to UMaine out of The Avalon School. He was an all-conference defensive back, ranked ninth among those in the Washington, D.C., area, and also returned kickoffs and punts.
“Satchel is a perfect fit for our defense. He has impressive press technique at the corner position which will match-up exactly with our scheme on defense,” Harasymiak said. “We are looking forward to him locking up opposing receivers.”
NLI signing continues with the regular period beginning on Feb. 6, 2019.
