ELLSWORTH, Maine ― A Hancock County woman will be extradited to Tennessee to face a rape charge after the victim’s mother called the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office to tell police where to find her.

Lana Marie Baxter, 46, listed an address in Bristol for herself but was living next door to her brother in Orland when she was charged on Sunday with being a fugitive from justice in connection with the Tennessee charge of rape of a child, Hancock County District Attorney Matthew Foster said.

Baxter waived extradition during an appearance in Hancock County Unified Criminal Court on Wednesday. She would have appeared in court on Tuesday, but Tennessee officials had not yet provided paperwork verifying the charge, a clerk said.

Investigators found Baxter after the mother of the boy called the sheriff’s office with the tip, Foster said.

Baxter will be held without bail at the Hancock County Jail until Tennessee officials come to get her. The rape charge carries a $100,000 bail in Tennessee, Foster said.
