A 10-year-old was hurt Monday afternoon after police say the child was hit by a pickup truck.

Robert Leavitt, 54, was driving a 1994 Ford along Weld Street in Dixfield about 2:35 p.m. when the child ran out from between two vehicles stopped for a school bus and struck the child, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal.

Witnesses told the police that the child “darted” out onto Weld Street and that Leavitt “had no way of seeing the child,” according to the Sun Journal.

The child was taken to Rumford Hospital with injuries that police said weren’t life-threatening, according to the Journal.

The collision remains under investigation.
