Colby College is offering more cash to make downtown Waterville look nicer

–The college is teaming up with the Harold Alfond Foundation to offer grants that could be used to upgrade the facades of downtown buildings.

Maine is adding construction jobs in places you might not expect

–Portland saw a decrease in construction jobs from December 2017 to December 2018, and Bangor construction job numbers held steady. Lewiston-Auburn and places near the New Hampshire border saw the most significant construction job growth.

Documents filed in federal court show a Lincoln hospital owes up to $10 million to almost 900 creditors

–Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday. It blamed diminishing revenues and annual losses on a declining patient volume, a symptom of a larger economic downturn in the Lincoln Lakes region. The last year the hospital didn’t lose money was 2011.

When the rodeo is in town, UMaine basketball teams must play on campus

–The University of Maine’s basketball teams play their home games at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. But when the Professional Bull Riding tour comes to town in March, the Black Bears potentially will have to play playoff games in “The Pit.”

–Members of the Masonic Lodge in Lisbon discovered Monday evening that water flowed freely from a second floor faucet all weekend, flooding the building’s downstairs and causing at least $30,000 in damages.

St. Agatha man’s 26-pound muskie biggest catch at Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby

–The 14th edition of this hugely popular ice fishing event drew more than 1,110 people to Aroostook County and anglers reeled in numerous big fish and took home lots of cash and other prizes.
