The top-seeded South Portland girls easily clinched a spot in the semifinals Wednesday night, defeating No. 8 Thornton Academy 66-33 in a Class AA South quarterfinal matchup.
South Portland improves their record to 18-1 on the season. Thornton Academy ends their season with a 4-15 record.

South Portland moves on to the AA South semifinals, where they will face the winner of the matchup between No. 5 Bonny Eagle (12-6) at No. 4 Noble (10-8), which was postponed Wednesday due to inclement weather.
South Portland was ousted by Gorham in the semifinals last year, falling 53-42.
