A Massachusetts teen died Saturday night after his snowmobile crashed in Poland.

Troy Marden, 17, of Amesbury, Massachusetts, was riding a snowmobile on Thompson Lake about 10:50 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a corner in the road, struck a snowbank and was ejected, according to Lt. Daniel Menard of the Maine Warden Service.

The rider of another snowmobile behind him stopped and attempted to render first aid before going for help, Menard said.

Marden died at the scene, Menard said.

The Mechanic Falls Police Department, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Poland Fire Department assisted game wardens at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

It was the fifth snowmobile fatality so far this season and the second to happen over the weekend, Menard said. A woman died on on Pennessweewassee Lake in Norway after she struck a snowbank, was ejected from her snowmobile and then struck by another snowmobile.
