Second-seed Winthrop and No. 7 Old Orchard Beach entered the final quarter tied, but the Ramblers outscored their opponents in the fourth quarter to win 50-41 in a Tuesday C South girls quarterfinal match at the Augusta Civic Center.

The game had been tight through the first three quarters, with the teams entering the fourth tied 33-33. But the higher ranked Ramblers were able to hold on for the win.

Winthrop’s record improves to 17-2 on the season. Old Orchard Beach’s season ends with a 12-8 record.

The Ramblers now move on to the semifinals, where they will face No. 3 North Yarmouth Academy on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 2:30 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.

The game was a second chance for Winthrop, which was ousted from the tournament before it even began in 2018 after losing to Old Orchard Beach in a preliminary game 60-38.
