A driver hitting the gas pedal instead of the brake caused an SUV to smash into the door at the Amato’s on Broadway in South Portland on Saturday morning.
Robb Couture of the South Portland Fire Department said the driver was trying to park when the crash happened just before 10 a.m. Saturday.
The door area at Amato’s suffered serious damage. Bricks from the building could see been broken apart from the wall.
The driver was not injured.
Broadway remained opened as rescue crews responded to the crash.
