Austen Truslow, the winner of the 2011 and 2012 Maine Junior Championship golf tournaments, enjoyed a strong performance over the weekend at the PGA Puerto Rico Open.

The 23-year-old Truslow, who spent summers on Islesboro and played golf at the Tarratine Club on the island, tied for 10th in the tournament at the Coco Beach Golf and Country Club in Rio Grande.

After winning the second of his Maine Junior titles, he attended Rollins College and the University of Virginia for a short time before turning pro in 2015.

Truslow shot up the leaderboard during Sunday’s fourth round, shooting a 6-under-par 66 to vault up 26 spots and into the top 10. He finished the tournament 9 under with a four-round score of 279.

His efforts on Sunday included a hole-in-one on the 16th hole, which was named the PGA Shot of the Day, and he earned a check for $66,500.

Truslow’s top-10 finish also guaranteed him a spot in this week’s Honda Classic at the PGA National Resort and Spa, Champion Course, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Martin Trainer won the Puerto Rico Open with 15-under-par score of 273.
