The First Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday affirmed the conviction and sentence of a New Hampshire man who shot his wife and another man during a Saco home invasion, U.S. Attorney Halsey Frank said.

Gregory Owens, 62, was sentenced to 20 years plus life in prison for the double shooting, which took place in December 2014.

Owens was convicted of interstate domestic violence and use of a firearm in a violent crime after prosecutors said he drove to Maine “intending to kill his wife, who was an overnight guest at the home of friends.”

Both Owens’ wife and the Saco homeowner shot in the break-in survived.

Owens appealed his conviction and sentence to the First Circuit Court of Appeals, which upheld both.

“This was an egregious crime by a remorseless criminal,” said Frank in a Wednesday statement, in which he commended the work by multiple law enforcement agencies to build a case against the man.
