Maine farmers are taking extreme measures to protect their farms for future generations
— A conservation easement is a voluntary legal agreement between a landowner and a land trust or government agency that permanently limits uses of the land in order to protect its conservation values. This deed restriction lasts in perpetuity, regardless of who the landowner is or how many times the property changes hands.
Your doctor’s office may soon be less germy because of a Maine paper mill
— Sappi, once synonymous only with large forests and paper mills, during the past 30 years has turned its expertise with wood to the fashion runways and even doctors’ offices.
Maine could abandon its state flag in favor of a once forgotten design
— Lawmakers are being asked to revise the design of the Maine state flag by adopting a version first used in 1901.
There was no opposition at a public hearing on the bill under consideration by the State and Local Government Committee, but that does not mean the proposal will get the green light.
There’s a special election for Greater Bangor next week. Here are the candidates.
— Voting for the special election will be held from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor and at the Orono Town Office. It will only be open to House District 124 residents.

Bar Harbor historical group to put former convent up for sale for $795K
— The Bar Harbor Historical Society is trying to sell the property, located at 33 Ledgelawn Ave., in hopes of generating funds it can put toward the society’s pending purchase of La Rochelle, a waterfront mansion on West Street that is on the market for $4.5 million.
