A pedestrian was struck on Congress Street in Portland on Sunday night and the driver then fled the scene, according to police.

Phillip White, 29, was walking on Congress Street near Maine Medical Partners’ Pediatric Center about 7:30 p.m. when police say he was struck by an unidentified vehicle, CBS affiliate WGME reported.

White was taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Peter Weyl, who lives in the neighborhood where White was struck, told WGME that speeding has been an issue on that stretch of Congress Street for a while.
