An Edmunds man died Wednesday morning after he lost control of his pickup truck in Washington County.
Michael Kilby, 35, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet K3500 hauling a trailer loaded with scrap metal along Route 214, also known as Ayers Junction Road, in Pembroke about 9:45 a.m. when he lost control of the Chevy and struck a tree, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. The crash happened about a mile and a half from the Route 1 intersection.
Kilby died in the crash, and his passenger, 40-year-old Matthew Seeley of Edmunds, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, McCausland said.
Troopers have not determined the cause of the crash, and it is unknown if speed or alcohol contributed to the crash, he said.
Neither man was wearing a seatbelt, McCausland said.
Pembroke is about 30 miles northeast of Machias.
