A Penobscot County man has begun a nine-month sentence in connection with a Maine Drug Enforcement Agency raid in the Bucksport area last September.

Stewart H. Carney Jr., 37, of Brewer turned himself in to the Hancock County Jail on Sunday after pleading guilty to a charge of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs on Jan. 17 in Hancock County Unified Criminal Court. He was transferred to Maine Correctional Center in Windham on Monday, a jail spokeswoman said.

MDEA agents seized 3.1 grams of crack cocaine, 11 grams of cocaine and 46 grams of heroin, $6,000 in cash and two handguns when they executed two search warrants Sept. 21 — one in Bucksport and another in Orland — and arrested five people, officials have said.

Carney is the last person to be sentenced at Hancock County Unified Criminal Court in connection with the raids.

Julio R. Sanchez, 30, of Holyoke, Massachusetts, is serving a three-year sentence at Windham after pleading guilty to a charge of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs on Jan. 17, a court official said.

Shane R. Grindle, 43, of Surry and Margaret L. McIninch, 43, of Stockton Springs each pleaded guilty to drug possession charges and were both fined $400, also on Jan. 17.

Monica Jean Johnson, 38, of Bangor died before her drug possession charge was adjudicated.
